Why We Are Called Lions
The founders of the Lions thought
that the word "lions" encapsulated
the potentials of their group, so...
L for leadership
I -- intelligence
O -- our
N -- nation's
S -- safety
THE LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK (NY) LIONS CLUB chartered in 1926, is a chapter of Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world. It is one of 48,000 clubs in 210 countries and geographic areas. Some 1.45 million members participate in a multitude of projects to make their home communities and the wider world a healthier, safer and friendlier place to live. The Financial Times ranked it Number One among the world’s service organizations.
While the Lions’ foremost mission is eyesight preservation, the prevention of blindness and assistance to the blind, it engages in major projects to prevent disease, improve the environment, and educate young leaders. And when there is a disaster of any kind
in the world, the Lions are there with volunteers and funds to help.
Each club is free to determine how it will fulfill the Lions’ motto:
We Serve. A new fire engine, a playground, recycling bins, a scholarship, a blood drive, a food pantry… the list is endless, as Lions supply hands-on help and funds for local needs, while also contributing to the wider goals. Visit lcif.org for a global view.
